Karla has directed hundreds of plays all over the country in a career that has spanned over three decades. Based in Tampa, Florida, Karla’s directorial style can best be described as highly collaborative.
“I am guided by the belief that artists are the historians of society. Everything we know about the history of civilization is known to us because artists from all disciplines documented historical events, both small and large. From the earliest petroglyphs on canyon and cave walls to the most sophisticated digital work, artists take the lead — illuminating, dissecting, examining and bringing society’s most important issues into sharp relief.
The arts bring our ancestors to life and energize our spirits. The richness and spiritual resonance of timeless art forms surge across cultural and ethnic divides and gather us together to find and explore common meaning.
My super power is inspiring artists and audiences alike. We must encourage everyone to find the artist that lives inside themselves and we must craft a message that helps people see the influence of creative thought in every day life. Again and again the arts call us together, help us see the beauty in everything around us and in one another and ask us to look at each other with grace, generosity and curiosity.
I bring passion, resilience and singleminded devotion to the work.”
